  • On average, 5,562 individuals enroll in non-hospital drug rehab residential services in Florida.1
  • In 2020, 2,390 adults and 50 children were served at state hospital inpatient and community-based residential programs.2
  • In terms of residential drug rehabilitation treatment costs, Florida is positioned as the 21st state, ranging from the least to the most expensive.
  • As of October 2023, Florida hosts a network of 51 adult drug courts, 14 juvenile drug courts, 13 dependency drug courts, and 4 DUI courts. Drug courts are specialized programs designed to address substance abuse issues within the criminal justice system, an alternative to prosecution and incarceration for first-time non-violent drug offenders.3
  • Residential services are only used to stabilize and treat individuals with opioid use disorders as they transition to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) within Florida’s State Opioid Response (SOR) Project. The level of care is reassessed at least every five days for inpatient detoxification placements and every 14 days for residential placements.4
  • In the United States, from 2011 to 2020, there were notable shifts in the distribution of clients receiving different types of care, including outpatient, residential (non-hospital), and hospital inpatient treatment. The proportion of clients in inpatient hospital treatment remained relatively stable, ranging between 1% and 2%.
